Yesterday was a great day. I have 3 children - ages 6, 4 and 2. I started out by going to my 6 year old daughter’s school to join her for lunch (they eat lunch at 10:45 am). If your parent comes to eat with you, you get to pick one other child and eat in this special igloo. I had two surprises - one good, one I’m not sure how I feel about. The good surprise was that I could fit in the igloo (I’m 6′5″). The other surprise was that my daughter picked a BOY as her special friend to come eat with us. I don’t know why, but that totally took me by surprise. I just assumed she would pick another girl. I asked her why she chose him and she said because “he’s silly and makes her laugh”. I know it’s going to get tougher as she gets older. I’m not looking forward to the dating years.

After leaving her school, I went to meet up with my friends from Flashlight Films, who were in town for a video shoot. I ended up hanging out with them all day and running the teleprompter during the filming. Grant Guffin, from Flashlight Films, and I are doing a class together at NRB/Reach next week. We got to talk more in-depth about our class and I’m pretty excited about it - it’s on churches that are pioneering and taking risks in the area of media. We’ve got Bobby Gruenewald, who oversees the LifeChurch.tv Open, Network and United operations as well as the Communications/Public Relations and Technology teams at LifeChurch.tv, joining us. We might also have one more surprise guest. It should be a lot of fun.

I’m also doing a panel and then another class with Phil Bransom on how your church can use media to go beyond conventional methods. If you’re going to be at NRB/Reach, comment on here and let me know.

PERSONAL:

Now for the big news. As many of you know, since leaving WorshipHouse Media, I’ve been speaking, writing and consulting - which I love. However, I’ve been feeling a call back to local church ministry, which is what I speak on and write about. I’m excited to say that I’ve accepted the call to be the Technical Arts Director at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship here in Dallas. I officially start this coming Monday, Feb. 12. I’ll still continue my ministries to the Church at large like conference speaking, writing, the podcast and this blog, but will focus most of my efforts into shepherding, building and growing the technical arts ministry at Bent Tree. I believe strongly that this is a God-thing and have sensed His hand on the entire interview process. Bent Tree is a growing, healthy, wonderful church here in the city. I’m proud to be joining their staff. Pray for us!
