We are STRICKLY mac based in tech/communications ministry at Hope Community Church, however the 7 macs in our department are the only ones in the church. The communications department and I attended an instructional clinic on leopard yesterday, provided by the company covering our tech support. All I can say is WOW. We are currently checking to make sure all of our critical software (live worship, protools, pro animator) will run with no issues and as soon as we confirm that I suspect we will upgrade ASAP.

It’s not PCs I don’t like. They seem to work fine. It’s Windows that kills me. Every time I’m forced to interact with Windows and I can’t get this to work or I have to load that Driver or It wants to warn me about this thing or that thing, I just want to run screaming back to my Mac where by and large, thanks to a great operating system, things just work.

Our church, long ago when computers were going to be used in the office, chose macs. Everybody is on macs, we have several xServes, and about a hundred workstations. I grew up with macs, so I love it! We haven’t upgraded to Leopard yet, but are looking into it, you know budget is always the issue! We use ProPresenter, and before that, we were behind the times and used PowerPoint. We use Keynote for sermon slides. I really think that workflow is best if you only have one system. Created on Mac, presented on Mac, and visa versa if you are in windows world. Compatibility is much better than 10 years ago for sure, but media files just tend to work more flawlessly if using the same OS. As far as Vista goes, all I have heard is it is big, clunky, and crashes. I will say that I haven’t used it personally, but all my windows buddies advise to stay with XP.

Everything outside of tech runs on the PC side. We use an iMac with Final Cut for editing, and another iMac with ProPresenter for lyrics. Power Point for sermon notes and announcement slides. I have my personal PC laptop sitting beside the iMac edit station. I’m running out of patience for the PC. More and more I find myself sliding over to use the Mac, it simply is easier to use, and has lots less issues. The PC is on Vista, which is pretty, and very clunky.
