A New Season For Tim Eason

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Below is a press release from my friend, Tim Eason:

After thirteen years of service, Tim Eason of ChurchMedia.net has announced his official retirement from the media ministry field. “It’s been a great experience and I’ve worked with some great people. Some of the relationships I’ve developed have stood the test of time and I expect that they will continue as I open another chapter of my life. When I started my company in 1995 I never imagined that ChurchMedia.net would become a staple in the media ministry world. I simply wanted to help other churches to use this powerful form of communication to teach God’s Word.

Now that I feel God calling me another direction, I’m so thankful that the ministry I set out to do will continue in the hands of people that I trust to take it to the next level,” Eason said.

Tim Eason’s activity level in his ministry decreased as he encountered numerous health problems. This made it harder for him to travel and even work at home. “My physical problems and resulting emotional difficulties have made it hard to do my job. I faced the inevitable possibility that CMN would eventually die without me being able to give it my full attention. Rather than let that happen, I felt that it was time to pass the torch over to someone with more time and energy.

I felt strongly that CMN should go to someone familiar with the community and not just ‘some company’ with good intentions. When the possibility of selling the company to Phil and Dan came up, I felt a total peace about the whole thing.

I’m not completely sure about what God has planned for my next step. I’ll revisit my musical background and write some new music. I’ll also be expanding my favorite pastime, watching movies and TV, by writing reviews on the shows I watch. I’m sure I will dabble in content creation and will still be available for some private consultations.

Ultimately I’ll be looking at how I can incorporate my health-related experiences into a format that can help others suffering from physical and emotional problems. I hope to turn my trials into a new ministry. My exploration into the next chapter of my life can be followed at www.timeason.com.”

PERSONAL:
Long before I started speaking and writing on media ministry, I looked to Tim and learned from him. Tim was a true pioneer in media ministry and God only knows how big his impact has been and will be. I thank God for him, his ministry, his speaking and writing, his website and how God used him to grow the area of ministry that is so close to my heart and many of yours. I encourage you to keep an eye on him, his new website and new ministry. I don’t think God is through with him, yet!

American Idol

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I started to title this return blog something like “Resurrection” or “I’m Back”, but I feel “American Idol” is more appropriate. You would not believe all God has been showing me while my laptop was in the shop for over a week.

Here I am, Mr. Church 2.0 and a tech guy and then my laptop crashes. The first couple of days I was mad - really mad, then I started figuring out what God was up to.

Don’t think God had anything to do with my computer crashing? I do and I have a story that I’ll share another day. For now, I’ve used up my “online time” catching up on emails.

This blog is something God has called me to do and something I take very seriously. Don’t worry - I’m not going anywhere, but I will be spending less time in-front of this screen at home. My God, my wife and my kids deserve more time from me. I get that - loud and clear.

More to come soon. Today I’m working on my classes that I’m teaching next week at the Moody Bible Pastors’ Conference in Chicago. I’d like to again thank my sponsor for this conference: EasyWorship.

And yes, there will be a Church 2.0 Local Forum in Chicago - We are officially booked now. Please join me this coming Wednesday from noon to 3pm at Park Community Church. Lunch will be provided for FREE. Spread the word!

Park Community Church
1001 N Crosby
Chicago, IL 60610.

PERSONAL:
Last night I attended my oldest daughter’s PTA meeting - the meeting part of it sucked. Really sucked! But it ended with getting to see my daughter sing and dance and I couldn’t have been more proud.

SPECIAL FOOTNOTES FOR FILM FANS -

In Back to the Future, the church gymnasium was the location for the high school prom/dance scene where Michael J. Fox reunites his parents and takes the stage to perform a wicked guitar version of “Johnny Be Good.”

In Sister Act, virtually the entire church served as an on-location set for the story of Whoopi Goldberg posing as a nun. The scenes where the nuns ate at a long table and where Whoopi was scrubbing floors were filmed in Grant Hall. The scene where the nuns were gossiping in the kitchen over ice cream was in the Main Kitchen. The choir room in the movie was shot in the church’s actual choir room at the time.

In Tom Hanks’ That Thing You Do!, the gym stage was the setting for a college talent show where the movie’s fictitious pop-rock group, “The Wonders,” first sang their hit song “That Thing You Do!” in public. In the scene, the group’s drummer surprises them by speeding up the tempo of the song, with very positive results.

May Travel

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

I have 2 conferences in May that I’ll be at (PLEASE let me know if you’ll be at either). One is a rare opportunity that I don’t usually get - I’ll be just attending and hanging out at the Biola Media Conference. This is a great conference that I’ve followed for years and always wanted to go to. This year I was invited to come and just attend and blog about my thoughts on it.

I look forward to seeing Phil Cooke and Craig Detweiler (both of whom I’m interviewing for my book) and getting to hear them speak. Usually I’m teaching at the same time as them and miss getting to sit in on their class. This will be a much-needed opportunity to not have the pressure of speaking and just soak up, network and learn. I can’t wait! Plus I’ll get to see several friends that I have in LA and spend some time with each of them.

***Speaking of my LA trip. I’m organizing a gathering in LA like we did in Las Vegas. This is a little different though - this will be the first of, hopefully many, Church 2.0 Local Forums. The Church 2.0 Local Forum- LA will take place from 11:30am to 3:30pm on Friday, May 2nd (location TBD). If you’re in the LA area and want to come (this is for all Church leaders) please stayed tuned to my blog and my Facebook group. ***

The 2nd conference that I’ll be at in May and teaching 5 classes for is the Moody Bible Pastors’ Conference. This will be my 5th year speaking there. I look forward to this conference each year as 1500 pastors from around the world gather to worship, fellowship and learn. I absolutely love speaking to senior pastors. This year will be cool because I’m taking my intern, Jonathan, with me.

***There will probably be a Church 2.0 Local Forum - Chicago on either Wednesday, May 21st or Friday, May 23rd. Again, stay tuned for more info. ***

If you will be at either of these conferences, please let me know and we’ll meet up! I would like to mention and thank EasyWorship for sponsoring my classes at Moody this year.

Paying My Respect

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

I have been blessed and encouraged many times over the last 6 years to be led in worship by Vanessa Whitwell at Fellowship Church. I also learned from her in several workshops over the years at the C3 Conference.

I was stunned and saddened this week to learn that she died at the age of 34 from a brain hemorrhage. I had just recently met with the creative planning team at Fellowship Church and had lunch with their worship pastor, Pace. I had mentioned to Pace how much I love hearing Vanessa sing and what a blessing she was. She will be greatly missed. I ask that you pray for her family.

Keep praising Him, Vanessa!

What Am I Up To?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

This past Sunday night I got to hang out with worship leader Jason Upton and his band. He led worship at Deep Ellum Church and God really spoke to my heart that night. This week, with the staff retreat and all, has flown by. We had a good rehearsal last night.

Today I’m trying to work on my “Church 2.0” class for NAB. This will be the first time I’ve taught this class (and will be teaching a few more times this year at other conferences). I’ll be working on the class all day Friday and Saturday, too.

This Friday night I’ll be seeing Shawn McDonald and Downhere in concert and will hang out with them a little, too. I’m taking my intern to this concert and hope he’ll become a Shawn McDonald fan. I love SM! Saturday, I’ll be watching my kids while my wife works and working on my NAB presentation, when I can.

Sunday I’ll worship and pack. Monday morning I fly to Vegas and will hang out there with some friends, walk the exhibit floor and hope to see the Blue Man Group Monday night. Tuesday, we have a FREE tech get-together lunch at 11:30am at the Hilton Hotel buffet. Please email Kip (kkendrick@digitalresources.com) to let him know you’re coming. I really look forward to meeting many of you in Vegas.

Here’s a sign of the times. You can watch a wedding live online - which would come in handy when distance or other circumstances won’t allow you or a dear family member or friend to attend. Check them out HERE.

Again, my classes at NAB (”Which Worship Presentation Software is Best for Your Church?” and “Church 2.0″) are sponsored by eleven72 and ProPresenter.
